This was part of an incredible tour organized by Vestmannaeyjar (Westman) Island archipelago just off the south coast of Iceland, and a very beautiful location. The volcanic archipelago includes the island of Surtsey which came into existence with a year long eruptions in 1963.

Our visit included a tour of the island which centred around the 1973 eruption of the Eldfell volcano on the main island, including a visit to a museum which told the story of the eruption.

A visit to a puffin colony on one of the islands was definitely a  highlight, and included a demonstration of the technique that is used to catch puffins.
